Pelecanus occidentalis or Brown Pelican

Here's a drawing I did last night of a brown pelican. I tend to take these guys for granted but they sure are majestic and odd looking birds. It's amazing how they can fly only six inches from a breaking wave. Yesterday I saw a flock of about forty birds all diving for fish, probably a huge school of sardines. It's scary but DDT almost wiped these guys out years ago. It's in the same style of the garibaldi and the sea turtle I did a while back. I tried doing it in acrylic but it wasn't coming out well, so I decided to go for a more illustrative style. I'm gradually understanding how to represent water, you have to figure out the three dimensions of the water, then how light hits each angle.
